We Have March Madness Videos!

March 17th, 2007

The NHL finally has some company. CBS has decided to post great plays during games, and a game recap once it’s finished, for all 64 games of March Madness. Did you see the Vandy player hitting a shot from his knees? Did you miss Player of the Year Durant’s quiet 27 and 8? Or maybe you’re a Duke-hater and want to relive the silky smooth jumper that took VCU to the second round? Simply click on any game to view the clips courtesy of CBS, or if you can’t decide what to watch, just check out our Latest Videos page.

If you want to catch March Madness live you can head over to CBS’s March Madness on Demand, but what if you’re using a computer MMOD doesn’t support? I’m looking at you Mac and Linux users… Inspired by a computer science student at Columbia (via), we were able to strip out all the extra stuff and give you the direct link to the stream. Enjoy.

Keeping it Niche

March 16th, 2007

RUWT? got some great pub over at SMITH Magazine. Who would’ve thought wearing a homemade RUWT? T-shirt could get you a sweet writeup?

RUWT is like SportsCenter meets ESPN.com meets Digg—in other words, a great mashup of some of the best in new tech tools in this Web 2.0 world. And if you don’t care about everything in that previous sentence, think of RUWT this way: sports junkie paradise. more…

My Head Hurts, YTT 7

March 13th, 2007

RUWT?blog has been pretty quiet for the past few days. I decided to spend less time on SXSW/i panels this year and more on socializing and networking. I figured the only way to do it right was to jump in head first and now…well…my head hurts.

The craziness has included:

I’m gonna need a few days to recover and thankfully we have a short lull before the Madness begins on Thursday. YTT this week is a One Shining Moment appetizer…

March 6th, 2007

Just three days until the geek mecca that is SXSW/i descends on us here in Austin, and I’m running around like a madman trying to get everything done. This week has been full of trips to Hobby Lobby for shwag materials, new features for the site, and now a sprint down to Kinko’s to take care of business cards.

But it’s Tuesday, and all things must momentarily pause to show respect to the YTT tradition. This week we pluck this hilarious video from the NBA’s channel on YouTube. They haven’t gone as far as the NHL has with their video selection, but it’s a start.

60-Day Return Policy

March 2nd, 2007

Well it’s been two months since this crazy idea got off the ground. My lame excuse that “I bought it with cash so I don’t have a receipt” or my uber-witty comments to the cute girl at the returns counter just won’t work anymore—might as well celebrate. To mark a whopping two months of existence, we’re rolling out three new, great features on Monday. And you don’t even have to get us anything.

WHester asked if Wednesday’s Texas vs. Texas A&M game was the highest rated game we’ve had so far and surprisingly the answer is no. The whopping 203 points was a close second to the women’s double OT game between Texas Tech and Oklahoma back in January, but I have a feeling this game had more folks watching.

People, has there been a more exciting conference than the Big 12 this year? At first I thought maybe I was being a homer, but just about every week there’s another classic from that conference. Strap in for the Big 12 Tournament—you can bet it’s going to be nuts.

update: I know I said the new stuff was coming out today. But my dog ate it. I left it at home. The Internet was broken? Yeah. It’ll be out tomorrow. Almost definitely.

And just like that, we’re only a couple days away from Championship Week. The regular season has flown by, but at least we had a great Saturday and Sunday full of awesome games. Granted, ESPN somehow comes up with a name for every week of the College Basketball and Football seasons, but Championship Week is actually a legit one. T-14 days until #64 v. #65.

Today’s YTT clip is a PSA from George Takei repsonding to last week’s comments by Tim Hardaway…and his smooth, chocolatey head.

Covenville?

February 23rd, 2007

After seeing the highlights on SportsCenter, I was really curious how the NHL was going to cut the highlights for last night’s battle between the Sens and the Sabres. There’s not a single bit (or even mention) of the wild fight that not only saw two goalies go at it, but a goalie and a forward tussle for a bit, but that doesn’t mean the NHL’s recap isn’t really exciting.

Can someone tell me who the play-by-play man for Buffalo is? And why a goal being scored causes him to yell “There goes the population in Convenville!” (at -3:49). There were 10 goals scored in the game bout, plus a shoot out, and each goal call by this guy is better than the last. I’ve always loved the Soccer guy that yelled “Gooooooool” for his voice control, but this Buffalo commentator screams and strains on his call of “Scoooooooooooooore” like it’s his dying breath. It’s awesome.

And…We’re Back!

February 21st, 2007

Wow. Well a lot has happened since I went to bed last night this morning. The videos seem to be working again, and the NHL is saying that they never told anyone to block embeds.

Was this a major YouTube bug? Internet Gremlins? Not sure yet, and it may be a while before we know for sure, but the important thing is that I’m an NHL fanboy again and I get to giggle at hockey recaps in French—’cause that’s really all that matters.

NHL Yanks Videos

February 20th, 2007

Hey folks, I just got off the phone with someone at the NHL. Looks like the NHL wants you to see video recaps, but they don’t want anyone to spread the word. I’m not sure exactly when they flipped the switch, but as of right now the NHL is no longer letting anyone embed any of their YouTube videos on any other site.

Can someone explain this to me? Isn’t the whole point of YouTube to get more eyeballs on a video? I really thought that the NHL was doing a smart thing by pushing the envelope and embracing Web 2.0 to get more hockey in front of more people, (other than the once a month NBC game and All-Star game on Versus, of course), but it turns out they just don’t get it.

They’re putting their videos on YouTube, but they don’t understand why they’re putting their videos on YouTube.

So, for the time being, you’ll have to click on the video recap to go to YouTube’s site, and then watch the video there. Of course there won’t be any news, any way to know if the game is any good, or (god forbid!) the actual score of the game, but that’s how the NHL wants you to consume their product.

YTT4

February 20th, 2007

It’s Tuesday. You know what that means.

But I need to be honest with you. I’ll be mailing it in today—I’m still recovering from the craziness of this long weekend. We have coaches smacking players, cars finishing the Daytona 500 upside down and on fire(!), news that the Golden Boy got his n-1 preggers, and on top of it all my hangover hurts even more after running into my n-1 at my favorite hip-hop spot last night.

Seems only fitting the clip of the week is a quality rant from my new favorite Big12 coach, Dan Hawkins. Granted, I wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a crowd if he was wearing a shirt that said “I am Dan Hawkins”, but you gotsta give him points for shaking up the standard coaches rant formula and blowing a gasket via teleconference.
