I thought Crawford definitely needed to be suspended for a game and kept from officiating any Spurs playoff games, but I was shocked when Stern pimp-slapped Crawford into next season. And to hear Stern say on Pardon the Interruption today that Crawford may never ref in the NBA again? Kinda stunning.
Everybody ready? The regular season is over, and it’s time for the NHL playoffs. With the NBA playoffs starting just a week later, this is actually a pretty underrated sports time of year.
Unfortunately, I won’t get to watch much playoff hockey (the only hockey I watch) because I don’t get Versus. There’ll be an occasional game on NBC, but for the most part, most of us will miss out. Keep an eye on the Video page for the most recent NHL recaps.
I’m still annoyed at Selig over this MLB Extra Innings garbage.
I’m still raving about 300, which I finally saw this weekend.
If you haven’t seen it yet, turn off your computer and go to a movie theater right now.
We’re friends, right? Well let me be honest. Gratuitous gore isn’t my bag, baby. I thought Sin City was visually stunning, but I found myself too distracted by the blood spurts and the fingers being eaten off to enjoy it. And Elijah Wood? Creepy. Elijah Wood as some weird, flesh-eating, super attacker guy? Even worse. But 300 handled it really well. When it was war time, it was war time. Sure there was lots of blood, but you always saw it coming. And somehow the constant slow-motion during the battle scenes made me want to watch it even more.
But if you haven’t seen it yet, let me warn you of one thing: when you walk out of the movie theater you’re going to feel pretty darn invincible. I don’t see stabbing elephants anywhere on my calendar, but I found myself strangely fired up to go home and crank out some new features. Personally, it’s hard not to find parallels with 300’s story line as I watch the big Sports Web 2.0 players either raising millions or being bought out for millions. The only question is, three months into this crazy project, will RUWT? and 300 remain parallel or is there an alternate ending?
Last night was easily one of the slowest TV sports night in a while as Desperados vs. Predators was the only game on. A slow night on my TV though, doesn’t mean nothing exciting is happening. This week’s You Tube Tuesday clip is a ridiculous steal and then shot by Rasheed to force overtime, and eventually a 113-109 Pistons win over the Nuggets. Check it out quick before the NBA yanks it.
We’re going back to the NHL for this week’s YouTube Tuesday clip. Basketball is easily my favorite sport to play (hear me out…), and have been playing it since HS. I got a bit of a late start (especially for Brooklyn), but I love it and can hold my own. I have the skills of a 3 or a 4 in the body of a 2, so I’m always trying to work on my handle, but there are many things I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to do on the court. Like dunk. Or a jump stop. You need a good amount of genetic talent to be able to dunk, so pulling off a jump stop always seemed easier to attain. Just takes practice right?
And then I saw this clip from Friday’s Canadiens v. Penguins game, where Sidney Crosby pulls off a jump stop…on ice! Through 4 defenders! I don’t know if I’m now more encouraged, or less.
Hockey fans, we have some cool news coming later this week. Stay tuned.
RUWT?blog has been pretty quiet for the past few days. I decided to spend less time on SXSW/i panels this year and more on socializing and networking. I figured the only way to do it right was to jump in head first and now…well…my head hurts.
I’m gonna need a few days to recover and thankfully we have a short lull before the Madness begins on Thursday. YTT this week is a One Shining Moment appetizer…
Just three days until the geek mecca that is SXSW/i descends on us here in Austin, and I’m running around like a madman trying to get everything done. This week has been full of trips to Hobby Lobby for shwag materials, new features for the site, and now a sprint down to Kinko’s to take care of business cards.
But it’s Tuesday, and all things must momentarily pause to show respect to the YTT tradition. This week we pluck this hilarious video from the NBA’s channel on YouTube. They haven’t gone as far as the NHL has with their video selection, but it’s a start.
And just like that, we’re only a couple days away from Championship Week. The regular season has flown by, but at least we had a great Saturday and Sunday full of awesome games. Granted, ESPN somehow comes up with a name for every week of the College Basketball and Football seasons, but Championship Week is actually a legit one. T-14 days until #64 v. #65.
Seems only fitting the clip of the week is a quality rant from my new favorite Big12 coach, Dan Hawkins. Granted, I wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a crowd if he was wearing a shirt that said “I am Dan Hawkins”, but you gotsta give him points for shaking up the standard coaches rant formula and blowing a gasket via teleconference.
This week we’ve had to borrow from YouTube’s cute, older sister. Pitchers and catchers report in two days, and I could only find this classic Conan O’Brien clip baseball clip on Google Video, so this week we’ll bend the rules just a bit.

Who is RUWTbot?
So how does all of this work? RUWTbot, our game-watching, slightly militant robot, is in charge of making sure you're not the loser at the water cooler that missed the big game. He knows, for every cable and satellite provider in every ZIP and Postal code in the U.S. and Canada, exactly what games you can watch. If it's a game you don't get, he won't bug you. ruwtbot.com
